Alberta Online Casino Play, Explained
With the regulated market now open, this page sets out how online casino play operates in Alberta. It describes who operates the market and the way to verify a site. It then explains where Play Alberta fits and what the home page ad is.
A new regulated market
AGLC opened registration for prospective online operators and suppliers on January 13, 2026. On July 13, 2026, the regulated private market went live. Two bodies share the work. AGLC acts as regulator of the market, while management falls to the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC).
An operator needs both steps to run legally in Alberta. It must register with AGLC and also sign an operating agreement with AiGC. Having just one of the two does not qualify.
Players face their own limits. Operators that are registered have to ensure that only people who are physically in Alberta can play. In this province, you must be 18 to gamble legally.

Play Alberta and the advertising rules
Run by AGLC, Play Alberta (PlayAlberta.ca) is the online gaming site that belongs to the province. It did not close when private operators arrived. It continues to operate next to them, with its revenue going to the Government of Alberta.
Advertising follows AGLC standards for anyone promoting an online gaming site. Each ad has to include a message about responsible gambling. Ads may not be aimed at minors, nor may they show anyone who seems underage. Nor can an ad link gaming with status or with being attractive. Offers for players may be advertised only on the operator's own site, which is why this guide shows none.
The ad on our home page
On this guide's home page, there is a single button, marked Ad. That button opens an online casino operated by a partner. This casino is separate from this site and from Play Alberta, and the province does not run it. A commission goes to this guide, and another partner could replace the current one behind that button.
No such link appears on this page. Before using any online casino, check it in the AiGC directory yourself. Whether by phone, text or chat, 211 Alberta offers gambling help 24/7, free of charge and in confidence. Dial 211, send INFO as a text message to 211, or go to ab.211.ca for the chat. Run by Recovery Alberta, the Addiction Helpline at 1-866-332-2322 is confidential, costs nothing and answers 24/7.
